Aloha Golf Club, one of legendary golf course architect Javier Arana’s finest designs, once again showcased its beauty and high quality to players taking part in the Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit. This is the 12th year of the annual circuit, which offers the main prize of five week-long trips to the Dominican Republic.
Founded in 1975 and home to such major European Tour events as the 2012 Andalucian Open and 2016 Spanish Women's Open, the Marbella course was in magnificent condition, and highly appreciated by the nearly 150 players who competed in the competition. On a sunny day with little wind, all the participants – both those who were already familiar with Aloha and those who were stepping on to its fairways and greens for the first time – thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Other highlights were the excellent collaboration provided to the tournament by Anna Volshakova, the club's director of operations, as well as that of Aloha president Rafael Fontán Zubizarreta, who presided over the prize-giving ceremony.
Jacobus Blank won category one (with 44 points), followed by Ellie Blank (42) and Georges D'Anthes (39). In category two, the top three finishers were Diego Ange Serrano (43), Giulio Riva (40) and Jesús Porro Molina (38). Scratch winner Frank Stockmans totalled 31 points. Especially worth noting is Diego Ange Serrano’s stunning streak of play on the 12th Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit, with Aloha being his third consecutive victory after Royal Sotogrande and Royal Valderrama. The prize for closest to the pin was won by Emil Bergkvist, while the longest drive prizes went to Dorte Kemp and Nicolai Kemp.
The scratch winner and top three finishers in each category received trophies and prizes including golfing apparel from the Fairway-blue boutique in Puerto Banús, cases of wine from the Enate, Lau and Sommos bodegas (D.O. Somontano), and one dozen Bridgestone balls (Tiger Woods Special Edition for the scratch winner and E6 for the other players).
The first and second category and scratch winners, who qualified directly for the grand final, were also presented with paintings by renowned artist Alejandro Hermann.
In addition, a special gifts raffle included a CaddyTalk Minimi Rangefinder – a small-sized, high-precision and image-quality laser measurement device – and three paintings by Alejandro Hermann.
The Aloha tournament was the 15th of nearly 30 tournaments scheduled to be held during the 12th edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. From February to September, the Circuit will cover the Andalucian provinces of Málaga, Cádiz, Huelva, Almería, Sevilla and Granada, in addition to Madrid, Salamanca and Segovia, with most of the events being held on the Costa del Sol.
The Circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Dominican Caribbean, will be held at La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort on 24 September, followed by a gala dinner.
Access to the final will be direct for the winners of each category and the leading scratch player in all the qualifying tournaments, while the rest of the places in the final will be awarded based on the Benahavís Ranking, calculated from points obtained in each leg.
The Circuit is sponsored by ThirdHome.com, MyHedgeFund.club, Benahavís Town Hall, Sanitas and Bahía Príncipe Golf, and the main collaborators are D.O. Somontano, Holiday Golf, Holiday Golf Estates and Fairway+blue. Cadena SER and Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine are the Circuit's official media outlets.
