Finca Cortesín Results

The prestigious Finca Cortesín course – designed by renowned US architect Cabell B. Robinson and the venue for three editions of the World Match Play Championship – hosted a hugely successful latest leg of the 2020 Andalucía Golf Challenge 2020-Destination Dominican Republic Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe Circuit.

The popular open amateur circuit is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and is being held at 16 superb courses – including several of Spain’s finest.

Organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine, the Circuit offers (as the main prizes) five week-long trips to the Dominican Republic including flights, transfers, all-inclusive five-star hotel accommodation and golf at three of the Caribbean’s finest courses: Ocean’s 4, Teeth of the Dog and Punta Espada.

On a sunny day, the strong Levante (easterly) wind and fast greens (some of the fastest on the Circuit this year) forced players to produce their best golf if they wanted to secure a good result. In addition to the exceptional high quality of the course, the five-star service provided at this iconic Costa del Sol club, located in Casares municipality, was another of the day’s aspects most highly appreciated by players.

Apart from prizes for each tournament (premium-brand apparel from the fairway+blue boutique in Puerto Banús, DO Somontano wines, sports equipment from Holiday Golf, etc.), the top three finishers in each category plus the scratch winner obtain places in the circuit’s grand finale at Atalaya Old on 21 November, with the chance of securing one of the five week-long Dominican Republic holidays.

The top three finishers in category one were Joseph Shirazi (42 points), Francisco Javier Martín Ramírez (36) and Feliciano García Barragán (36). Interestingly, the latter was also third at Finca Cortesín on the 1987 Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit, and that same year he won the special prize for longest drive. As Shirazi sealed a place in the grand final as scratch winner, his category one position went to fourth-placed Diego Mena Galiano (33 points).

In category two, Antonio Capasso led the way with 41 points, followed by Diego Ange Serrano 40) and Luis Miguel Rodríguez Martínez (39).

As mentioned above, Joseph Shirazi was the scratch winner with 34 points, two more than Francisco Jesús Martínez Ramírez and Javier Reviriego Bóveda.

The special prize for closest to the pin went to Carlos Gutiérrez, also winner of the longest drive together with Karine Svaldi.

The next scheduled tournament on the Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination Dominican Republic Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe Circuit is 6 September at Royal Guadalhorce.
