With its high-quality design and magnificent maintenance and presentation, Marbella Club Golf Resort once again provided a superb challenge for participants in the Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit. This is the 12th year of the annual circuit, which offers the main prize of five week-long trips to the Dominican Republic.
Designed by Briton Dave Thomas and located in Benahavís municipality (bordering Marbella), the course received unanimous praise from the players, who enjoyed a sunny day of golf with little wind.
Guillermo Gemar Lirola won category one (with 37 points), followed by Francisco Gil García (also 37) and Santiago Gutierrez Duque (36). In category two, the top three finishers were Francisco Mangas Montes (40 points), José María García Soisa (40) and Manuel Jesús Godoy del Roj (38). Scratch winner Kim Forsgren totalled 31 points. The prize for closest to the pin was won by Sergey Falaleev, while the longest drive prizes went to Barbara Repossini and Miguel Ángel Rivera Pérez.
The scratch winner and top three finishers in each category received trophies and prizes including golfing apparel from the Fairway-blue boutique in Puerto Banús, cases of wine from the Enate, Lau and Sommos bodegas (D.O. Somontano), and one dozen Bridgestone balls (Tiger Woods Special Edition for the scratch winner and E6 for the other players).
The first and second category and scratch winners, who qualified directly for the grand final, were also presented with paintings by renowned artist Alejandro Hermann.
In addition, a special gifts raffle included a CaddyTalk Minimi Rangefinder – a small-sized, high-precision and image-quality laser measurement device – and three paintings by Alejandro Hermann.
The Marbella Club tournament was the 16th of nearly 30 tournaments scheduled to be held during the 12th edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. From February to September, the Circuit covers the Andalucian provinces of Málaga, Cádiz, Huelva, Almería, Sevilla and Granada, in addition to Madrid, Salamanca and Segovia, with most of the events being held on the Costa del Sol.
The Circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Dominican Caribbean, will be held at La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort on 24 September, followed by a gala dinner.
Access to the final will be direct for the winners of each category and the leading scratch player in all the qualifying tournaments, while the rest of the places in the final will be awarded based on the Benahavís Ranking, calculated from points obtained in each leg.
The Circuit is sponsored by ThirdHome.com, MyHedgeFund.club, Benahavís Town Hall, Sanitas and Bahía Príncipe Golf, and the main collaborators are D.O. Somontano, Holiday Golf, Holiday Golf Estates and Fairway+blue. Cadena SER and Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine are the Circuit's official media outlets.
